Although Cameron Diaz wasn’t nominated at this year’s Academy Awards, we at True Hollywood Makeup still think that she had award-worthy makeup. She showed up to the Oscars with a modern twist on a classic Hollywood by incorporating creamy beige eyeshadow tones and bold lips. How can you get Cameron’s look? We have the scoop.

To achieve Cameron’s Red Carpet look start with a moisturizing foundation that boosts collagen and firms skin, like Bobbi Brown’s Luminous Moisturizing Foundation.

Next line the entire eyes  black, with Automatic Eyeliner Duo Pencil from Benefit.

Then apply NARS Duo Cream Eyeshadow in Madagascar. Blend the satin nude and smoky quartz hues to create depth.

Apply a few coats of Maybelline’s The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara to really make eyes pop.

Sandra Bullock pulled off the on-trend fuchsia-magenta lip like a pro at this year’s Oscars. How can you bravely replicate this look? Check out what celebrity makeup artists have to say.

Brightly colored lipsticks aren’t as high maintenance as they seem.

Skip the lip liner pencil and apply bright pink lipstick with a precision lip brush or even your finger. You don’t want the look to appear too harsh. Forgo lip liner. It will give your lips a more youthful appearance. Stick with a semi-matte formula for a classic take on the luscious red lips of yesteryear.

A fuchsia newbie and looking for a subtler effect? Apply the color to the back of your hand before applying it to your lips with a lip brush.

Next step: Blot, blot, blot. Apply a translucent powder and another layer of lipstick. This will ensure your bold lipstick has staying power. It will be less likely to wind up on your champagne flute or your boyfriend’s shirt collar.

Don’t make your look too matchy-matchy. Remember, you want to look youthful (again, refer to step 1)! If you’re wearing pink from head-to-toe, pink lips are a bit much. Save the bright lips for occasions when your outfit will be understated, like Bullock’s champagne colored frock. Hot pink lips are the only accessory you need to pull together your little black dress.

Make sure your eye makeup is subdued, and not competing with bright pink lips. Try mascara without liner or trade dramatic shadows for neutrals/taupes that blend effortlessly with your skin tone.

Do you ever wonder how celebrities keep their skin looking so youthful and healthy year after year? Could it be a spray tan, plastic surgery, or are they aging backwards like Benjamin Button? None of the above…it’s just makeup and a subtle way of highlighting and contouring.

Makeup artist Christina Lee Adams gave us the scoop. Her work has appeared on the runways of Miami and Palm Beach including shows such as Versace and Zac Posen, Palm Beach Illustrated, Steve Madden’s 2009 Fall and Spring Lookbooks, and hundreds of Manhattan’s most seasoned makeup aficionados.

What you will need to achieve this look:

• A cream or liquid foundation or concealer 1 to 2 shades lighter than your skin tone
• A cream or liquid foundation in 1 to 2 shades darker than your skin tone
• A translucent finishing powder( I recommend Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder $30.00)
• A natural haired brush (I recommend MAC #168 Angled contour Brush $32.00)

ATTENTION: No bronzer or shimmery products required!

You will want to start by placing your lighter colored foundation in the center of your forehead and chin, down the bridge of your nose, under your eyes and on the area beside your nose.  Don’t blend just yet. Place the darker shade of foundation around the perimeter of your forehead just below your hairline, the hallow part of your cheekbones, the sides of your nose, and underneath your jawbone.

After you have placed the foundation, you will then take your natural fibred brush and begin to blend the two shades together, beginning with the lighter shade and finishing with the darker shade. By using a soft brush, you will avoid streaking of the foundation, and the natural hairs will pick up any excess makeup sitting on your skin, giving you an all around more natural look.  Once you have finished blending the foundation you will take your translucent finishing powder and dust it over your skin, add a touch of blush, and voila, you are now looking like a better version of yourself, and your skin is red carpet ready.

MATTIFY ON A BUDGET: Matte nails are a huge trend! Forget purchasing five new shades of Chanel nail color in a matte finish, keep the hues you have in your arsenal and top it off with a top coat that mattifies that base color! Give those tried and true shades an update with this new finish. Essie Matte About You ($10, ulta.com) and Rescue Beauty Lounge Matte Top Coat ($18, RescueBeauty.com) are great affordable options!

PUT A FOUNDATION ON YOUR BASE: Help your drugstore foundation stay put longer with a makeup finish. Skindinavia’s No More Shine diminishes oiliness and 10 Years Younger ($19, skindinavia.com) adds in hydration, which is great since a lot of the more inexpensive foundations are loaded with talc and mica which can be very drying on the skin. Looking for added hydration and cooling? MAC Fix+ is also an industry darling ($18, nordstrom.com).

CREASE NO MORE: Do those drugstore eyeshadow crease and fade by lunchtime? Standard drugstore eyeshadows tend to have less pigment than their department store counterparts, and thus have less staying powder and may apply more sheerly. Experiment with color on a budget, but amp up that drugstore shadow’s staying power with eyelid primers that will intensify your shadows hue and will last all day with no touch ups! One of the first to hit the market is Urban Decay’s Primer Potion ($18, sephora.com), but L’Oreal’s De-Crease Eyeshadow Base and Primer ($7.99 at drugstores) is a more affordable option!

LIP VENOM FOR LESS: Brush your lips after you are through brushing your teeth in the morning and a night and apply a thick coat of Carmex ($2.49 at drugstore.com). The menthol in the Carmex on the fresh lip skin plums your pucker better than any $20 venom and the results last just as long.

LUSHER LASHES: Mascara formulas may change, but the biggest qualifier for lush lashes is the mascara wand! Go ahead and pick up the iconic Maybelline Great Lash ($4.89 at drugstore.com) but dump that flimsy brush and replace it with a fab lash brush that will separate lashes and create a thick full effect! MAC offers one for $11 (nordstrom.com) with high quality synthetic fibers which helps properly distribute the product without clumps and we also love the Suki Brow Lash Brush ($10.95 at skinbotanica.com) for its thickness and blendability!

We all know that curling our lashes is a big “eye-opener,” but the curl only reaches its full potential with the right mascara application. One technique beauty expert Mickey Williams shares with her clients that makes their eyes the focus and their lashes the frame, is to use a business card during application. Read on to see how the celebrity makeup artist to Paris Hilton and Ali Landry creates sexy smizes (that’s smiling with your eyes!).

* Place the business card behind your lashes and in front of your eyelid.  Make sure to place the card right up to the base of the lash line.

* Next gently sweep mascara onto your lashes pressing against the card. This enables you to cover every strand from corner to corner without leaving flecks of mascara on your lid or brow bone.

* When applying to the corners move card to cover the skin right behind the lash line.

With proper mascara application, you may find you’ll leave the liner out of your daytime makeup routine.

“Careful shading, a hint of color, concealer and properly applied eyeliner and mascara brighten the eyes and help to disguise the signs of aging” says Dimitri James, author of Becoming Beauty and the founder of Skinn Cosmetics. “Beware of overdoing the eyes, however, as this can make you look older or too made up,” he warns. Read on for a step by step tutorial on getting your best ever eyes!

PREP AND PRIME: Sit at a table with a mirror directly in front of your face so you can rest your elbows on the table and steady your hands. Prepare the skin around your eyes with a primer. This will fill the fine lines and crow’s feet to create a super smooth surface for concealer.  Apply concealer where necessary and blend thoroughly.

LINE THOSE BABY BLUES: Follow with eye liner, a crucial step! As you age, the sharp outline of the eyes blurs. Eyeliner redefines the shape of the eyes. Smudge the eyeliner with a cotton ball and/or eye shadow to blend. Line the upper lid with black and lower lid with brown to define without aging. In general, avoid eyeliners that are lighter than your eye color and do not use white eyeliner. Unless you are a professional, white is too hard to use. Try to match your eye color intensity or choose colors that are darker than your eyes. If you are in a hurry, do not use liquid eyeliner. Simply apply eye shadow with a wet brush. Finally, set the eyeliner with face powder on a cotton ball so it will not smear. Use eye drops before you apply your makeup for brighter and younger looking eyes.

BASE COATS: If you do not need to use a concealer, apply an eyeshadow base before applying eyeshadow.  Do not apply the eye shadow directly on the eyelid. The eye shadow base helps to hide uneven skin tones, fill in lines, and prevent creasing. It creates the super smooth surface that allows shadow to glides on smoothly.

DON’T GO FOR THE GOLD: When applying eyeshadow, look down into the mirror with your eyes and tilt your head slightly back to expose the eyelids fully. Do not extend the eyeshadow below the level of your lash line. This drags down the eyes. Draw an imaginary line from the corner of your lower lash line to the outer tip of the eyebrow. No shadow should extend past this line. In general, avoid using more than three eyeshadow colors at one time. Avoid frost or shimmer on the lid or in the crease as these colors accent fine lines and make you look older. Frost and shimmer shades should only be used under the brow near the arch. James recommends Skinn’s Runway Ready Eye Shadow with collagen boost peptides and hyaluronic acid.  The moisture binding hyaluronic acid will smooth out the look of dryness on the lids so women of any age can wear the colors anywhere on their eyes without looking crepey, frosted or not!

NO MATCHY MATCHY: Do not try to match your eye shadow to your clothing colors. Find the most flattering neutral shades and stick to them. To dress up your regular eye makeup, try adding a dark gray, charcoal, navy, plum, or dark brown to the outer corner of the eyelid and blend it well. Blend your shadow by brushing over the lid with a little blush that matches the color you used on your cheeks. Be careful not to use too much pink or red around the eye area as this can make you look tired. Avoid sharp eye shadow corners, otherwise known as “bat wings,” and dark, unblended contour colors. Older women with deep-set eyes should not use dark eye shadows as these harden their look. If you have smaller eyes, a tiny bit of frost in the center of the eyelid applied over an all-matte shadow makes eyes look larger. For evening looks, try gold shimmer over matte browns or burgundies and silver shimmer over matte blues, plums, violets, and grays. For an easy, chic look, try applying bronzing powder to the eyes and cheeks instead of using eye shadow and blush. For a true monochromatic look, apply bronzing powder to your lips with a cotton swab and apply gloss over the top.

Complete your look with an application of black mascara. Use a quality lash curler to gently bend not kink your eyelashes in preparation for mascara.  Colored mascaras are typically too light to brighten the eyes. Brown and auburn shades only make the eyes look red and tired. Whereas too much eye shadow can make you look older, more mascara can help you to look younger, so be sure to use several applications. Fake eyelashes, on the other hand, add ten years to your look. If you must wear them, James explains, invest in a pair of expensive, real hair lashes attached to a fine silk thread.

We were lucky enough to link up with Kelly Richardson of Sonoma Airbrush Tanning. She knows a thing or two about tanning the most beautiful bodies in the good US of A — she’s been in the industry  for years and has quite the following with a number of Miss America contestants.

And with spring just around the corner, the desire for a getting a great looking tan looms dangerously ahead.  For years, men and women, have kicked off the sunny months by heading to the tanning salon, to get a jump-start on a bronze glow.  This year the trend has changed, and they are reaching for a faux-glow. Read on for Kelly’s tips on how to achieve your best glow yet — and it doesn’t mean reaching for the sugar scrub just yet.

“The days of being “orange” and “smelly” are gone,” explains Richardson. “Now new sunless alternatives are available including fabulous self-tanners, aerosol spray mists, and spray tans, to give you a long lasting tan…all summer long.”

She explains that the key to getting optimum results with sunless alternatives is exfoliation.  Before you reach for that fabulous sugar scrub in your shower, reach for a loofah, washcloth, or even better a water-based, oil-free scrub.  Any oils on the skin prior to a spray tan, or self tanning product application will inhibit the active ingredients from reaching the amino acids on the skin, keeping the tan from developing.

After application of any sunless tanning product or spray tan, allow a few minutes for the product to set on the skin.  Refrain from putting your clothing on too quickly, and if you can go without the undergarments, all the better!

The most important advice that I can give is to moisturize.  Using a high quality moisturizer, twice daily, will keep your tan alive and from prematurely fading.  Even better,  use a moisturizer with tan extending agents every other day.  Avoid body scrubs, waxing, and lightening creams during the duration of your sunless tan.  The results could be disastrous.

If you choose to utilize spray tanning to get your faux glow, make sure to pick a reputable tanning technician, ask your friends for recommendations, and make sure the technician has taken a “hands-on” training course.

COLOR COSMETICS CONNUNDRUMS: Switch to a cream blush like mark’s Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint, which will give you a dewy, not greasy look. Also switch from your regular eye pencil to a fun gel eyeliner – Color by Cynde Watson Cosmetics and Urban Decay have a number of fun colors – and because it has a soft silky feel, it’ll glide on smoothly over dryer skin – and it wont flake through the day.

FINISHING PRODUCTS: Let’s face it, foundation, powders and the cold wind are drying, so one of the best ways to battle these agents throughout the day is with a moisturizing finishing spray. Try  Skindinavia’s 10 Years Younger – it has additional moisturizers that will help keep your makeup in place all day, and out of fine lines and wrinkles.
MISCELLANEOUS TIPS: Invest in a humidifier. (Or you can counteract the drying effects of your home by placing a bowl of water near the radiator to put more moisture back into the air.) Avoid blow drying your hair for those 20-30 minutes.

January and February are the chilliest months of the entire year! Skin flakes, foundation cracks and creeps into fine lines—your skin is parched. How should you change your skin and makeup routine to get through the big freeze? Which ingredients should you avoid to keep dry skin at bay?

THE NEW CLEANSING & MOISTURIZATION: Give your skin the nourishment it needs, first thing in the AM. We recommend 3LAB Hydrating Vita Cream and 3LAB Hydra Day Water-Based Sunscreen, SPF 20 for these reasons. Try using your “night crème” during the day this time of year! Rub some on your lips, too – it works better than balm.

FOUNDATION WOES: Switch over to moisturizing foundations. They tend to keep hydrated throughout the day. Avoid foundations with talc and mica which tend to be drying—if it has one of those ingredients, which oftentimes is crucial for color dispersion, make sure they are at the end of the list, like Laura Mercier’s Moisturing Foundation. Same for concealers – try Makeup For Ever’s HD Invisible Cover Concealer, which offers a soft-focus effect. Allow your makeup to set for 5 minutes – you’ll then know where you’ll need to powder up.

POWDERING UP: Powder only on your t-zone area. The talc in pressed and loose powder dry out your skin and sop up all the moisture your lotion initially provided you. Try a silica powder like Makeup For Ever’s HD Microfinish Power which is a lot less drying (or drugstore brand, Physician’s Formula!) If, after letting makeup set and applying powder you have any remaining dryness, dab a dollop of moisturizer over foundation and problem spots. You can also try avocado oil, rose oil or primrose oil tablets (which you can keep in your purse and break open if you need during the day)—they’re lightweight and won’t make you break-out.
