Winter is here in full effect and we still have a few more months of brutal cold until Spring arrives. If you don’t pay attention or take care of your body this time of year, you will see the effects on your skin, such as dry hands, chapped lips, and brittle hair. Making sure you take the right steps to combat the weather is essential for healthy skin. Jennifer Aniston, 42 years old, maintains her ageless, sun-goddess looks by keeping up with her skin care regimen. While you can afford to be a little lax with treatment products in summer when humidity is higher, but you need to ensure your skin is taken care of in winter with regular exfoliation and moisturizing masks. By following just a few precautions, we can keep our skin healthy and glowing, like Jennifer Aniston.

Moisturize More. The trick to winter beauty is in keeping your skin well-hydrated. The combination of a moisture-loaded skincare regimen and the most up-to-date make-up looks will help you smoulder as the temperature drops. Make sure you have some extra heavy duty moisturizing cream handy.

Love your lips. Using a lip protector such as lip balm, chap stick or lipstick with a moisturizer to keep the lips soft will help prevent them from drying out. Make sure the product you pick has a good moisturizing properties, protects the lips against the elements, and contains vitamin E.

Exfoliate. Exfoliation is good for you because it helps to remove dead skin cells by allowing the skin to absorb more moisture. A good rule of thumb is to increase exfoliation to twice a week in the winter. Sephora brand’s Smart Dual Action Exfoliator effectively cleans and wipes away dead skin cells. For anti aging try Olay’s Regenerist Microdermabrasion & Peel System to regenerate your skin’s appearance at home.

Use weekly clay masks. Detoxify and deep cleanse your skin with a weekly mask that uses draws out impurities and controls excess oil

Switch to a foundation that moisturizes and combats aging. A slightly more moisturizing foundation gets your skin set for the season. Try using Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturizing foundation, an anti aging treatment and foundation in one – perfect for the drier conditions that come with winter.

It’s a time to reflect on the changes we want to make and resolve to follow through on those changes. Many do not always follow through on NYE resolutions but here are 5 beauty tips that are so easy you can actually keep!

Get our your hot rollers. This year’s glam retro styles like Elizabeth Bank’s Hollywood glam curls are easy to create with a classic styling tool: hot rollers.

Commit to a skin care regimen. Your skin will thank you! If you can’t wash your face before bed, use a makeup removing exfoliating wipe like Almay’s Makeup Remover pads.

De-clutter your makeup bag. If you haven’t used a product or tool in a month, toss it. Instead of carrying around two, three (or 10) pink glosses, keep only the one you reach for most.

Pick a perfect shade of foundation. A natural-looking base is key because it sets the stage for the rest of your makeup. Pinpoint your best match by testing colors on your jaw line.

Resolve to touch-up less! Layering on powders and concealer throughout the day keeps your skin from breathing and it’s heavy on the wallet. Invest in long-wear makeup and a setting spray (hey, we love Skindinavia’s Original Makeup Finishing Spray!) to keep skin fresh and glowy throughout the year.

Primer is also a necessity! Besides keeping your foundation on your face all day, primer makes your makeup look smooth and evenly distributed. Try Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer. A foundation brush also helps you create a more natural, polished look. When using it to apply your foundation, concentrate on the focus areas which need covering up like the center of the face and blend outward toward the jaw line.

Finish the look with a translucent powder like Maybelline Finishing Veil Transluscent Powder. Translucent works better than pressed powder for a lightweight, fresh look. The reason Rachel McAdams’ face looks so natural is that she hasn’t over-applied foundation.

Its also about the professionals behind the scenes who help celebrities keep their skin healthy. Here is a Q&A about skin care that we got straight from Dr. Chiu's newsletter called "Don't Chiu Know!"

Dr Gabriel Chiu

Celebrity beauty isn’t just all about the makeup that goes on top of the skin. It’s also about the professionals behind the scenes who help celebrities keep their skin healthy.

Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon and skin care expert Dr. Gabriel Chiu of Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery performs some of the most flawless aesthetic surgery in the business. But he’s not just about rhinosplasties and tummy tucks. He also has experience working with children who were burn and trauma victims. A tremendous service.

And beyond that, as a master of reconstructing the body, Dr. Chiu has a tremendous wealth of knowledge regarding the composition of skin, and how to keep it healthy. Here is a Q&A about skin care that we got straight from Dr. Chiu’s newsletter called “Don’t Chiu Know!”

“What vitamins should you take to keep young and elasticity in your skin?
What types of skincare are good for you to keep from wrinkling or aging?

There are two things that definitely decrease the skin’s elasticity, causing wrinkling and accelerated aging: smoking and the sun. If you want to look young, protect yourself from the sun and don’t smoke.

A healthy diet and exercise may also help because they increase blood flow. Fish and other foods containing omega-3 fatty acids (such as flaxseed) may also be helpful.

Vitamin A, found in green leafy vegetables, whole milk, and liver, can help maintain and repair skin. Vitamin C & E are antioxidants that protect you from sun exposure, pollution, and smoking. They help remove free radicals, thereby reducing the damage.

Besides citrus fruits, vitamin C can be found in broccoli, bell peppers, and Brussels sprouts. Vitamin E can be found in vegetable oils, nuts, olives, spinach, and asparagus.

Selenium, found in whole grains, seafood, garlic, and eggs, also help to minimize the damage caused by free radicals. Zinc can clear skin by controlling oil production and is important in cell growth. It can be found in oysters, lean meats, and chicken.

Lutein, a dietary nutrient available as a supplement and long-known for its effectiveness in promoting eye health, also provides specific skin health benefits. These include increasing the hydration, elasticity and superficial lipids of the skin, while decreasing the oxidation – a process that causes degradation – of those beneficial skin lipids.”

Thanks Dr. Chiu. We’ll be looking forward to more great information from the next issue of “Don’t Chiu Know!”
