Common Mistakes when Tweezing Eyebrows

Kyle Richards

Kyle Richards has a perfect eyebrow shape for her face

Kyle Richards has a Brooke Shields look going with her big eyebrows that match her face perfectly. Eyebrows can make or break your entire look. Because they shape your face, they can make your eyes look tired when you’re not, or make you look mad when, in fact, you’re not, or just make you look plain creepy. This is why it’s necessary to be very careful when cleaning up your own brows.

Here are the common mistakes most women make when it comes to grooming their own eyebrows. If you’re guilty of any of them, don’t freak out, you can work to correct them in no time with these tips.

  1. Misplacing your arch. Many women create an arch in their brows that is too close to the center of their eye, which causes a furrowed look. To fix it, let your brows grow back in. Then the next time you tweeze, grab a pencil and hold it parallel to the outer edge of your iris. The point where the pencil hits your brow is where your arch should be.
  2. Tweezing too often. Tweezing every day is too much. Instead, plan to tweeze your brows once every three weeks.
  3. Using a magnifying mirror when plucking. If you can’t see the hair in a regular mirror, then neither can anyone else and you’ll end up over tweezing.  Use a regular mirror and make sure you have good, natural light when tweezing.
  4. Tweezing more than one hair at a time. Though it may seem like a time-saver, plucking more than one hair is dangerous because you’ll be more likely to create holes in your brows. Every single hair you pull should be one that you have thoughtfully decided needs to go.
  5. Trimming too much. If you trim many hairs at once and trim them too short, you’ll likely end up with bald areas. Brush the inner portion of your brows up and trim only hairs that are longer than the rest, one at a time. Brush the outer portion of your brows down and do the same.

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale looks flawless with a natural smoky eye

Who wouldn’t want to look like Kate Beckinsale for a day? She is a talented actress, mother, and wife who looks like she hasn’t aged a day. Her makeup is always natural looking and flawless.  Here, let’s take a look at how to get her natural smoky eye that can be worn day or night.

  1. To get Kate’s natural smoky eyes, first use a soft shimmery eye shadow, like MAC shadow in Grain, all over the entire lid as your base.  Apply using a large shadow brush, also taking the color lightly under the eyes as well with the same brush to balance the eyes and add highlight under the eye.
  2. In the crease of the eye, using the same large shadow brush, add a hint of a deep shimmery bronze, like MAC shadow in Sable. Start soft and deepen little by little, while also taking the color a touch under the eye as well with the same brush.
  3. Next apply a black eyeliner, like MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder, to create that defined cat’s eye.  Start applying the pencil thinly within the eye, increasingly thickening as you slide toward the outer end of the eye.  Use a small angle brush to blend the product as close to the lash line on top as possible and to extend the line up and out on the ends to further highlight the cat eye. Take the liner a bit under the bottom lashes as well.
  4. Long lashes will finish off Kate’s ageless look. Curl your lashes, then apply at least two coats of the darkest black mascara you can find, like Dior’s Blackout Mascara. Apply to the top and bottom lashes and make sure to separate the lashes so they are not clumpy.

Rihanna

Rihanna sports a golden bronze-y look.

Fair, rosy skin is definitely a main-stay in winter, but a golden bronze tan is certainly captivating. Luckily, anyone can achieve a bronzed makeup look without the harsh UV rays. Rihanna shows off her glow with shimmery brown eye makeup and a golden bronzed tan that looks perfect on her skin tone.

To achieve a look that’s tan, never muddy, select a bronzer that’s right for your skin tone. Medium skinned women look fetching in golden bronzers, and fair-skinned women are better off with a hue that has pinkish-undertones.

Here’s how to get her look:

  1.  Even out your skin tone with foundation, if needed. Then, use a peachy-bronze blush. Try MAC Powder Blush in Raizin on your cheekbones.
  2. Apply dark brown or black eyeliner to your inner rims. Then, sweep coppery-bronze eyeshadow like L’Oreal Paris Wear Infinite Eye Shadow Single in Copper Penny on your lids and blend it up towards to your brow bones. Curl your lashes and apply thickening mascara.
  3. Apply pinkish or nude lipstick with a shiny finish to your lips. Glide it on with a fingertip for a less done up result.
  4. Sweep a shimmery bronzer across the cheeks. Try using Lauren Mercier’s shimmer block bronzer. This has 4 unique shades that when blended together give the skin a healthy, youthful all-over glow. It also brighten eyes and cheeks with a hint of natural color and light.
  5. Finish with Skindinavia finishing spray to hold your look all day and you’re on your way!

Jessica AlbaGoing all out for a New Year’s party? New Year’s Eve is the time to stand out and have fun dressing up and being a girl! Your makeup look could be more dramatic. It is the time to get dressed up and be more daring and dramatic. Plus the best makeup trend during those big nighttime events that make the best impression will always be the brown Smokey eyes makeup.  Amp up your look with the brown smoky eye like Jessica Alba who knows how to light up her deep hazel eyes perfectly. You can create a smokey eye with any dark eye shadow shade. Charcoal gray and black look great on brunettes.

To copy her look apply a cream concealer like Iman’s Second to None Cover Cream over your eyelid to create a smooth base for your eyeshadow. Use a pencil liner (black or gray looks best) to trace your top lashline from the inner corner to the outer. Then, use the same pencil to dot between your lower lashes. Smudge both lashlines with a cotton swab or an eyeliner brush. Next, sweep a dark brown powder shadow over your lid and into your crease, blending the color up and outward. Bobbi Brown’s Slate shadow is a great one to try. Finally, dust a lighter, neutral eyeshadow (such as ivory) over just your browbone and finish with some volumizing mascara like Dior’s Diorshow Mascara in black. As always finish with Skindinavia finishing spray for a makeup look that lasts.

CKim Kardashianelebs know that the quickest, most effective way to make their eyes look big and gorgeous is with fake lashes. Kim Kardashian regularly enhances her eyes with fake eyelashes and makes it look natural using Kre-at Beuaty’s 3/4 winged lashes.

Now, you too can master the art of faking it and make your eyes pop! A full strip of lashes adds even more drama than a few individual ones. Here’s how to do it yourself:

  1. If the lash is wider than your eye, trim one side of it lash by lash.
  2. Squeeze eyelash glue onto the back of your hand and run the eyelash along it. Blow softly from edge to edge to make the glue a little less runny to apply your lashes.
  3. Pick the lashes up with tweezers and bring it as close to your natural lash line as possible.
  4. Press from end to end and hold until the glue dries (30 seconds to a minute, or sometimes less depending upon the adhesive). This allows the glue to set so that when you lift your fingertips from it, the lashes won’t come along for the ride
  5. Apply mascara while pressing your finger behind the fake lashes. This will bond the false lashes with yours.(It may be beneficial to use an eyelash curler before applying mascara)
  6. Fill any gaps between the false lashes and your natural lash line with eyeliner.

Lauren Conrad’s Romantic Winged Eyeliner

Lauren ConradLauren Conrad sported her signature  winged-eye look at a charity event in West Hollywood. Winged eyeliner is sexy, dramatic and perfect for a night out.  Best of all it’s not too tricky.  Here’s a great how-to achieve the look without looking like you got into some sort of brawl.

When it comes to makeup, less is more. I always think that before getting started on my face (thanks to my Mom ). So it’s no surprise my all-time favorite beauty look is a fresh face accented with classic black winged eyeliner.

Here are a few simple steps:

  1. Spray Skindinavia to keep your makeup intact.
  2. Curl eyelashes and apply mascara. Try Dior’s Blackout Effect Mascara for more oomph.
  3. Using Prestige Liquid Eyeliner: Black Beauty, with a very thin brush drag the brush along your lashline starting from the top inner corner of your eye toward the outer corner of your eye.
  4. With liquid eyeliner make a thin line along the top surface. Apply more eyeliner to the outer top of the eye and create a natural outward curve. Be sure to follow the natural shape of your eye.
  5. Clean away any smudging with a damp Q tip.
  6.  After you have lined both eyes, be sure to compare the thickness on each eye. Are they even? If not, simply take a pointed q-tip and lightly drag the line along the eye to make them symmetrical.
  7. Once you finish lining your eye, allow 15 seconds for the liner to dry.

Work Those Bronze Eyes Like Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth OlsenMost think bronze is best suited for summer months but Elizabeth Olsen works it on the Gotham Independent Film Awards red carpet, proving that a bronze smoky eye will heat up your winter look.  It also takes almost no time so it’s perfect for those days you feel like hitting the snooze button on your alarm clock.

The trick to achieving a soft smokey eye is to layer on. You should start with a solid light brown shade all over the lid and pile on deeper colors on top.

  1.  Prep eye area with a foundation and concealer/powder.
  2. Apply a light neutral base eye shadow to upper eyelid and crease area with large eye makeup brush like Motives Press Eye shadow in Vintage Glam. Also, sweep this color under lower lash line from inner to outer corners with smaller brush.
  3. With a medium eye brush, apply a more intense bronze based color to upper eyelid. Try out Elle’s Motives Paint Pot Mineral Eye shadow. Feather this color under 1/2 of outer corner of lower lash line also.
  4. Add dark brown eye shadow color to outer eye corners for more intensity if desired.
  5. Line eyes with black eyeliner, paying careful attention to the lower and upper eyelids. Try Ultrafresh Black Magic Eyeliner and be sure to blend for a smudged look.
  6. Curl lashes and apply 2 coats of black mascara.
  7. Apply a highlighter to brow bone and inner corners of eyes.
  8. Finish with Skindinavia for a look that won’t smudge or wear off.

Victoria BeckhamMetallic eyeshadow is the latest trend of the season with everyone from Alicia Keys to Kim Kardashian sporting the cool icy shade. The best part is that this can be done subtly or intense for a big night out. Plus replicating the look is easier than you think: One sweep of color can make a delicately gorgeous impact. Or go for a more powerful layering of shades and create a striking glint across the lids. Ready to get an eyeful?

Fashion icon, Victoria Beckham wore a sexy, super smoky metallic gray liner and mascara at the 2011 British Fashion Awards. The effect was stunning when paired with a low, classic bun, dark eyeliner and a creamy nude lipstick.

To recreate Victoria’s eye makeup look, use a deep grey eye pencil like Maybelline New York Charcoal Grey to heavily line upper and lower lash lines, then lightly smudge and draw out color past the outer corners of the eyes. Next, sweep metallic shadow like Sonia Kashuk Enhance Eye Shadow in Steel on the lids, staying below the brow bones. Use a black eye pencil to line the inner rims of eyes and finish with several coats of volumizing mascara. Try  Rimmel London Glam Eyes Mascara for big bold lashes.  Dab a lighter metallic shadow on the inner corners and you’re ready to shine at your Holiday party.

Hollywood Secrets Eye Series: Flash Your Lashes like Cat Deeley

Posted in Celebrities, celebrities makeup, celebrity beauty, Celebrity Makeup, Celebrity-Makeup-Eye-Makeup-Ideas, eye makeup, How To Apply Makeup, How To Makeup on October 12th, 2011 by Eva Knapp
Cat Deeley spider lashes

Go Spider-y without looking too Halloween!

Spider lashes are a major trend for fall and are a really fun, and easy, look to try. From runways to red carpets to pretty much anywhere, major lashes—like So You Think You Can Dance’s Cat Deeley’s—are a must. Whether you’re gluing on falsies or using a great mascara, always remember, the more dramatic, the better.

Here’s how to create Deeley’s sultry look:

1. First apply a layer of eye primer over your lashes, this will help you get more length and thickness.

2. Use a volumizing mascara like Big Fatty mascara by Urban Decay in the darkest black you can find. If you have an older mascara, use that one. The more air in the tube, the thicker the formula, therefore the quicker you will achieve the look. (If you have a new mascara, you can leave the top open while applying the rest of your makeup.)

3. When applying your mascara, start like you normally would by applying it to the base and working your way up. After a couple coats, turn your brush perpendicular and coat the top of your lashes for that added thickness.

4. Another way you can get the spider lash effect is by applying your mascara like you normally would and then take tweezers and clump your eyelashes yourself.

So whether you are looking for a great green eye makeup look or an option for your brown or blue eyes, this easy look compliments gals of all shades and colors. Don’t forget to finish with Skindinavia makeup finishing spray before applying these layers so that the rest of your look stays on all day!
