Celebrity makeup artists always know how to shake things up mid-season. We are almost halfway through fall and now is as good a time as any.

Jessica Alba has a celebrity makeup look that always keeps us guessing. But of course, she’s got a dream team of makeup pros behind her.

Tia Hebron is a member of that team and she has a couple of great tips on how to change up your look mid-fall.

Fun With Shimmer Eye Shadow

Hebron explains: This fall have fun with shimmer eye shadows. A lot of brands have some really cool multicolor, multi-dimensional glittered eye shadow for Fall/’Holiday 2009. Glittered eye shadows make the eye really sparkle for the season but remember, we’re not talking a full eye of shimmer.

Apply either to the lower lid or under the brow bone for a modern look!

And What About Lips?

This fall do wear a rich color, full body lip color..like a wine, deep plum or a bold red. But keep color minimal every where else. Even go for cream neutral blush to ensure the skin looks like skin and doesn’t overplay the lips.

Every girl wants lips with a little attitude. But not everyone is into the super-plumped pouty look. Even finding the right shade for your complexion can be a challenge. Especially when you’re going for a nude lip.

Personally, we think Lucy Liu has the cutest, understated natural lips in Hollywood. Her celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman told us the secret to her natural, subtly accentuated look.

And the secret is…Rimmel’s lip pencil in Tiramisu.

“”This is an amazing neutral lip shade,” explains Freedman. “It’s a fleshier version of MAC’s Spice. I’d say it’s the drugstore version of MAC’s Stripdown.”

He recommends it for fall’s nude lip and paired with gold gloss and a smoky eye, this lip pencil is subtle enough to keep the interest on the eyes but gives enough color impact that lips won’t look to low watt.

True Hollywood Makeup is all about giving you a behind the scenes look at the reality of how the most beautiful celebs get polished for the camera. We recently spoke with celebrity makeup artist Erica Maniscalco.

She’s got a very down-to-earth view of natural beauty and how to keep perspective on the supernatural perfection we see every day in the media. She also has a great tip about how to get great lashes! This is a must read.

“Everyone has flaws and imperfections,” explains Maniscalco, “the main difference is that the general population is not in the public eye and they do not have a team to make them look beautiful everyday.”

Below are common facts about lashes.

99% of celebrities wear fake eyelashes. Though when many people think of lashes the word fake come to mind. But lashes do not have to look fake.

There are so many brands and styles to choose from and if applied correctly no one will ever know you are wearing them.

Besides celebrities, lashes are used in every mascara ad on TV and in magazines.

Some tips when applying lashes are:

1. Once they are glued on apply a black liner to cover the strip.

2. Take an eyelash curler to bring your lashes together with the fake ones.

3.  Apply mascara to both your lashes and the fake ones for a finished look.

Celebrity Makeup Eva LaRue

When oil shows up on a celebrity’s t-zone, celebrity makeup artist Allan Avendaño is on the crime scene but needs no investigation. He’s got a de-slick system that keeps celebrity clients shine free for the cameras.

CSI Miami’s Eva LaRue is one of his faithful clients. And here, Allan’s tip that keeps her matte and TV ready.

Eva has the most amazing skin tone and such beautiful features. Here are some makeup tricks Allan Avendaño uses for every occasion, including photo shoots, red carpet events and television interviews.

SKIN: Eva has a smooth and healthy complexion however her t-zone area tends to get a bit shiny. For long-lasting shine control, I use Make Up For Ever’s ALL MAT Face Matifying Primer before applying her foundation.

After the foundation is applied, Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Powder is applied lightly all over the face. Note that the HD Powder is amazing for motion cameras but will reflect light when used for still photographs.

The key is to dust lightly, making sure that the powder is blended evenly on the face to avoid “white reflections” in photographs.

Here is one of her recommended fabulous skin care tips that you can start using today to improve your skin immediately.

Controlling Oily Skin

“This procedure will help deeply cleanse the pores leaving your skin soft and revitalized.

You will need: A gentle soap, a soft bristled toothbrush, the entire peel of an orange, lemon and grapefruit and one liter of distilled water.

Step 1

Cleanse your face as you usually would if you are using soap.

Make sure to use a neutral soap to avoid anything that may be too harsh for your skin. Take the soap and create a thick lather, take a gentle brush (you may use a soft tooth brush) and gently exfoliate with the brush in a circular motion throughout the entire face especially on your T-zone for approximately 3-5 minutes.

Do this step 2-3 times a week. If you have sensitive skin only do this twice a week.

Step 2 – Homemade Toner

Once finished with step number 1, take 1 liter of distilled water and add the peel of the orange, lemon and a grapefruit and bring to a boil. Pour the mixture into a clean glass container and refrigerate until cool.

Take a cotton ball and pour your homemade toner and dab your entire face with it. Do this before and after step number 1.  Never use a normal toner because they usually are high in alcohol making your skin too dry.

This homemade toner will help close your pores and help control your oily skin. Note: Since this toner is homemade it will only last for about a week.

We’ve always been huge fans of Vanessa Williams.  She’s got a strikingly crisp and beautiful look.

As you might imagine, we were pretty psyched to get a tip from Kate Best – Vanessa’s celebrity makeup artist on the set of “Ugly Betty.”  Here’s the scoop on Kate’s favorite techniques for Vanessa.

First she uses Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage #6 for all over coverage. Then she custom blends KohGenDo’s Moisture Foundations in 301, 302 and 303 to perfectly match Vanessa’s skin tone, blending darker around the edges of the face and lighter in the center.

She follows that up with KohGenDo’s Triple Lighting Foundation in medium which is  her new favorite powder because it combines with skin’s natural moisture to provide a smooth, polished look.

For blush she goes with KohGenDo’s Fresh Face which adds nice pigment to the cheeks. Then, she layers that with Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Soft Shimmer Bronzer on Vanessa’s temples and below her cheeks for a natural glow.

For the eyes she swipes on blinc Kiss Me Mascara to amplify and lengthen Vanessa’s lashes. And lastly, for the lips, she layers MAC’s Stripdown Lip Pencil and LipGlass Lip Gloss in Revealing.

We recently caught up with Jen Hoover, Celebrity Makeup Artist to the likes of Nip Tuck’s Kelly Carlson, and supermodels like Doutzen Kroes.  Here’s what she has to say about one of Kelly Carlson’s favorite makeup secrets!

If you are looking for a great mascara to really bring out and extend your lashes, there’s a mascara that Jen and Kelly both agree is the best of the best!

“During prep for a press junket for Nip/Tuck, Kelly and I had an in depth discussion on mascara. She swears by and will only use BadGal by Benefit for thick, long, ‘hooker lashes’ as she stated! Luckily I had recently fallen in love with the mascara as well, and even though she was prepared with her own, I was able to please her with mine,” Hoover shared.

“This mascara comes with one of the largest mascara wands I’ve ever seen, and really does a fabulous job of coating lashes and allowing them to be all that they can be,” Hoover added. “At the time black was the only option, but Benefit has since branched out and included blue, plum, and brown in the selection.”

Napoleon Perdis most recently handled Karina Smirnoff’s makeup look for the Primetime Emmy Awards. Napoleon channeled a romantic, Fred Astaire period inspiration, with a “Think Pink” pout. Perdis utilized traditional black and white contouring methods and turned to his Auto Pilot Priming collection to create a flawless look that withstood the 102-degree red carpet and her energetic show performance.

For aging skin, silicone is “one of the best things ever added to cosmetics and creams,” says Heidi Waldorf, M.D., 42. “Products go on silky, stay smooth, and seal in moisture”—an ideal anti-aging skin care tip for complexions that are parched or crepey.

She dabs Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum under her eyes before applying makeup. “With its high concentration of silicone, it acts like a primer, filling in little creases.” Look for dimethicone or cyclopentasiloxane on labels.

Looking for a celebrity-esque tip for the winter?  Instead of bronzer, bump up the blush! Here’s a little insight into your skin from a well known dermatologist that explains why!  When you move from the freezing outdoors to the overheated indoors, your cheeks blush naturally to release the heat, says Diane Berson, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City.

To bring out your fresh-off-the-slopes flush, try a powder blush in a peach nectar, bright-rose or poppy-pink shade. Blend a liberal amount with a big, fluffy brush in the pattern of an oversize check mark (swipe brush diagonally down your cheek and then up to your temple).
